چکیده

Mitochondria isolated from normal mammary glands taken from lactating and nonlactating C3H mice were compared with those isolated from mammary adenocarcinomas. Functional mitochondria could be obtained from the normal mammary glands only when milk was not present in the tissue prior to homogenization and when bovine serum albumin was added to the isolation medium. Albumin also protected tumor mitochondria from destructive factors released into the homogenate by disruption of the tumor cells. Although normal mammary glands contained more mitochondria per of g of tissue than did the mammary adenocarcinomas, no major differences were observed in ultrastructure, phosphorylation, rate of substrate oxidation, phosphate ion transport, passive swelling, or cytochrome content between functional mitochondria from normal and neoplastic tissues. These studies suggest that there is no impairment in the functioning of mitochondria in the mammary adenocarcinoma.

Detection of Mouse Cytomegalovirus in Adenocarcinoma Bearing Razi/A Mice: Molecular and Pathological Studies

Despite a lot of research, the etiology and progression of breast cancer remain incompletely understood. Recently, human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) was reported as a risk factor for breast cancer. The aim of this study was to know whether breast cancer could be caused by cytomegalovirus or not? In this experiment seventeen samples of RAZI/A mice with spontaneous breast cancer were being gathered fr...

Identity, Release, and Binding of Mitochondrial-bound Hexokinases in Mammary Glands and Adenocarcinomas of Lactating Mice1

The mitochondrial-bound hexokinases (adenosine triphosphate:D-hexose 6-phosphotransferase) of mammary adenocarcinoma and of normal gland were compared in lactating C3H mice. Treatment of mitochondria isolated from both the normal and neoplastic tissue with 0.5 MNaCl or 0.1 HIMglucose 6-phosphate effected the release of about 50% of the bound hexokinase. In the presence of magnesium ion, enzyme ...

Comparison of adenosine triphosphatase activity of nuclei and mitochondria from mouse mammary adenocarcinoma.

Nuclei from a mammary adenocarcinoma and liver indigenous to the same mouse, isolated by two different methods, were shown to contain adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) activity. The distribution of ATPase activity in subcellular portions of the transplanted mammary tumor was ascertained and found to be highest in the mitochondrial and nuclear moieties. Comparison was made between the ATPase act...
